HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. — REAL News Central Indiana has discovered the journalist for the Hamilton County Reporter who is a convicted child molester is also a part owner of the newspaper. According to an article in The Reporter from December 31st, 2021, convicted child molester Stuart Clampitt took over ownership of the paper along with three other men at the beginning of last year. Clampitt was convicted of multiple charges including child molestation, sexual misconduct with a minor and child p*rnography between the years of 1996 and 2003. According to court records, his initial conviction involved a 15-year-old girl. Clampitt was 22-years-old at the time.
According to The Reporter article, Clampitt took over operations of the paper with 3 other men in 2022. They are Isaac Taylor, attorney Ray Adler and “broadcast legend” Paul Poteet.
RNCI reached out to The Reporter for comment regarding Clampitt on Tuesday. We never received a response.
According to records with the Indiana Department of Corrections Stuart has been sentenced to prison for the following crimes involving children:
May 6th, 1996: Sexual Misconduct with a Minor, 4-year prison sentence
May 6th, 1996: Sexual Misconduct with a Minor, another 4-year prison sentence.
June 24th, 1996: Sexual Misconduct with a Minor, 8-year prison sentence
June 24th, 1996: Sexual Misconduct with a Minor, another 8-year prison sentence
September 30th, 1996: Child Molestation, 2-year prison sentence
Additional court records show Clampitt was charged with possession of child p*rnography in 2003. He pled guilty in that case to violating the terms of his probation and was sent back to prison.
Clampitt was arrested again for violating the terms of his probation in 2016 when he illegally went onto school property despite being listed on the Indiana Sex Offender Registry. He was also found guilty in that case.
CLAMPITT’S COVERAGE OF LIBRARY POLICY
Clampitt’s coverage of the library has been heavily weighted against a recent policy at Hamilton East Public Library that would protect children from being exposed to p*rnographic material.
In one articleClampitt spoke to Author Kelly Yang who lambasted the board and its policy. In the story, Yang demanded all of the books that have been removed be put back into children’s sections. Clampitt did not reach out to any other source to get the other side of the story.
RNCI reached out to Yang for comment about why she was promoting explicit material for children through a convicted sex offender. She did not respond.
One book that has been taken out of the children’s sections is titled,Let’s Talk About It: The Teen’s Guide to Sex, Relationships, and Being a Human.Let’s talk about itis a graphic novel which gives depictions of sexual acts, directs children on how to perform the acts, tells kids to watch p*rnography and advises kids to go into internet chat groups to discuss their sexual fantasies.
