Glastonbury WON'T broadcast England's next Euros clash on Sunday (2024)

Glastonbury Festival will not show England'sEuro 2024clash on Sunday after the Three Lions' snoozefest against Slovenia last night.

The world renowned music festival at Worthy Farm, in Somerset, announced it would not be screening the last 16 games of the tournament, despite broadcasting England men's and women's World Cup quarter finals in 2010 and 2019, respectively.

England's 5pm match on Sunday is set to clash with headlinersShania Twain, who will be finishing her set on the Pyramid Stage when the match kicks off, and Canadian pop star Avril Lavigneon the Other Stage.

It means sports fans could be left unaware of the score withphone signal notoriously bad at the festival that will be full of 200,000 people.

In a statement released ahead of England's stalemate 0-0 draw against the eastern European country last night, organisers said the decision to not screen the matches had been made not to clash 'with the headline sets'.

It comes as fans in Cologne Stadium were left yawning and even falling asleep after the teams 'abysmal' sleepwalk into the Euro 2024 knock out stages.

Even the usually supportive glamorous WAGs were left scrolling aimlessly through their phones and staring up into the stadium as the dull match dragged on.

But despite plastic beer cups being chucked towards the England manager and the team being booed off the pitch, loyal Three Lions fans will be sitting in front of their television screens to tune in again on Sunday.

Back in 2010, Glastonbury founderMichael Eavis donned a 1966 England red top and posed with a replica World Cup trophy to announced a 'football field' would be created in the Bushy Ground to show the Three Lions' quarter final against Germany.

Nine years later organisers to show England women's World Cup quarter final against Norway following a plea from Lioness midfielder Georgia Stanway.

However, organisers have echoed the same stance they took in 2014 and 2016 in deciding not to screen games of the World Cup and the Euros due to a potential clash with the headline acts.

Glastonbury confirmed in a statement released before Scotland were knocked out that the matches would not be beamed to the crowds this year.

'In previous years, we have endeavoured to show notable matches on big screens where possible, particularly on days before the main stages have opened.

'However, with England and Scotland's last 16 matches potentially clashing with headline sets at this year's festival, the decision has been made that - as in 2014 and 2016 - should England or Scotland qualify from their groups, their last 16 matches will not be shown at the festival.'

They added: 'We would like to wish both Gareth Southgate and Steve Clarke's sides all the best in Germany. And we hope we'll all be able to watch them play quarter-final matches in the days after this year's festival.'

One football fan Jack Mcalinden, who arrived in early in Pilton, Somerset as the festival opened its doors, said he was 'not sad' to be missing the game, after the dull match yesterday.

'I'll begrudgingly be checking the England score,' he said, 'but I'm not sad to be missing it quite frankly.'

Agitation has been growing towards Southgate's squad since the tournament began, with fans demanded to see 'better football' being played in the next match.

Some fans even foresaw that England's match against Slovenia would follow a similar dull vain to that of its draw with Denmark and mediocre win against Serbia.

Punters failed to show up to pre-booked tables at the Petersgate Tap in Manchester predicting another poor performance after football fanatics blasted the team's 'sub-par' games against Denmark and Serbia.

'We had three tables booked tonight for the England game and no one turned up. Extra staff laid on who expect to be paid. Roll on the 6 Nations,' the pub owners fumed.

Fans have become angry that despite topping their group England has only scored two goals in three games.

The team were booed off the pitch during their lap of honour, while some supporters made obscene hand gestures.

During the game, goalie Jordan Pickford's wife Meghan was seen reading her phone, as well as Wilkins' partner - while Bukayo Sako's girlfriend Tolami Benson stared up at the crowd above and treated herself to an ice cream mid-match.

Fan Freddie Hahn, 32, from Crawley was pictured fast asleep during the match - despite spending £500 for the three day trip to Germany.

'It was a very dull game, there wasn't much going on and I thought I was better off asleep. There was a lot of booing at the end and that woke me,' he told MailOnline.

'I was actually having a nice dream about England winning the tournament, but I woke up to the nightmare of England's performance. I'd been on the beers all day and just thought it's better to close my eyes than see what was happening on the pitch.'

Yet many Glastonbury-goers will undoubtedly be disappointed that they won't be able to watch the next match.

The nation will be hoping Southgate's squad can bring back the feelgood factor for Sunday's last 16 match after their status as Group C winners means they will avoid Germany, Spain and France until the final.

The full statement read: 'In previous years, we have endeavoured to show notable matches on big screens where possible, particularly on days before the main stages have opened.

'However, with England and Scotland's Last 16 matches potentially clashing with headline sets at this year's Festival, the decision has been made that – as in 2014 and 2016 – should England or Scotland qualify from their groups, their Last 16 matches will not be shown at the Festival.

'It won't be known until the week of the Festival whether or not England or Scotland will actually play a match during the Festival.

'But, as we have already been asked about our plans, we wanted to let everyone know well in advance that the decision has been made not to screen the potential matches.

'We would like to wish both Gareth Southgate and Steve Clarke's sides all the best in Germany. And we hope we'll all be able to watch them play Quarter Final matches in the days after this year's Festival.'
