Jaw-dropping expenses are nothing new in the gaming world, but the upcoming LoL Faker bundle prices have astounded even the biggest of whales. To celebrate esports phenomenon Faker’s induction into the Hall of Legends, Riot Games introduced new skins for its character Ahri. It was a move that should have been applauded but it has backfired pretty significantly since the prices were announced. Everyone expected the bundle to come at a steep rate to mark its role as an exclusive collectible, but League of Legends’ almost $500 Faker skin bundle was unexpectedly overambitious.
Fans are geared up to celebrate Faker’s induction into the hall of fame, after all, he does have an esports career like no other, but LoL’s almost $500 Faker skin has prompted a boycott of any player who decides to spend an obscene amount of money and support the company’s greed.

Lol’s Faker Bundle Price Leaves Fans Fuming
League of Legends tried to do a good thing and honor the legendary Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok who began his professional esports career in 2013 and has been backed by SK Telecom ever since. The South Korean gamer has dominated in tournaments and led his team to unbelievable victories, all of which have contributed to him earning titles like the “Unkillable Demon King.” Even non-gamers have been enticed into learning about him over the years as he built up a reputation for standing out.

Riot Games’ decision to inaugurate the Hall of Fame with him was a no-brainer as there are few who have come close to popularizing the game the way he has. However, the expensive bundle diminishes some of the seriousness of the honor by making it look like nothing more than a cash grab.
League of Legends’ expensive skin isn’t the only thing you get in the bundle but it has quickly become the main topic of conversation. Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok is known for staunchly avoiding skins in his plays, with only a few instances recorded of him having used them. The choice to release LoL’s $450-$500 Faker skin is ironic, to say the least. Regardless, of Riot Games making a mess of this Hall of Legends initiation, the one heartwarming result of all of this is the supportive messages we’ve seen from fans, teammates, and other gamers.

What is the Hall of Legends that Resulted in the Faker Skins?
The Hall of Legends was announced on January 4, 2024, to commemorate the 14 years of the League of Legends’ esports identity. According to Riot Games, every year, a new powerhouse in LoL gaming will be celebrated by the Hall of Legends, celebrating gamers both from the past and present. Along with an acknowledgment of their achievements, in-game celebrations should also occur, which is why we have the overpriced LoL Faker bundle. To initiate this Hall of Legends, four-time world champion Faker is set to be the first to be inducted.
The inductee will also be compensated for the use of their image to promote this celebration. According to the company’s FAQ, “the 2024 inductee and some LoL Esports teams will earn 30% of gross revenue from the Hall of Legends event.” The share isn’t as high as you’d expect, especially considering the price of the bundle.

What Do the LoL Faker Bundles Include?
Expensive in-game microtransactions are never celebrated and Riot Games ran into some challenges last year with an expensive recolored skin for Dark Cosmic Jhin, which was only available through a gacha system that would set you back $200 USD. Despite the pushback from the move, the company decided to ignore its history of disappointing fans and announced the LoL Faker bundle, again priced unnecessarily high.
There are three levels of the Hall of Legends Faker skins that have been introduced: Risen Legend Ahri Skin, Immortalized Legend Ahri Skin, and Signature Ahri Skin Upgrades with Faker’s signature move. There are many ways to access the LoL $500 Faker skins if you’re interested. The Hall of Legends Pass and other Faker bundles will be available during the event, between June 12 and July 8, 2024.

Hall of Legends Pass
The Hall of Legends pass costs 1,950 RP or Riot Points, which is the primary currency that is used in the game. In real-world currency, it will cost $14 USD. You won’t get all the rewards by default, but you can collect them with some effort. All things considered, for fans of Faker, the rewards you may collect with the pass may seem worth the money if you are a regular LoL player who can make their way through the battle pass quickly. The League of Legends Faker Skin Boycott Is On
Now not everyone has to pick League of Legends’ most expensive skin if they do not want to spend so much but then there appears to be little point in the celebratory event at all. Fans of Faker would have leaped at the chance if it was affordable and the company may have sold a larger number of passes and bundles instead of limiting themselves to the handful of whales who are made of money. The reactions online range from angry to disappointed but there is little support to be found.
YouTuber Asmondgold pointed out that the company had been replying to the few positive tweets with much gusto, attempting to suppress the negative feedback. He also pointed out that all in-game purchases are a waste of money, which is a little hard to dispute. If it makes you happy then minor microtransactions are alright but almost $500 USD for in-game cosmetics is a bold move. Sure the Hall of Legends Faker bundles include more than just a singular skin, but they are large items that most don’t want to see priced so high. Would players be happier if you could just purchase the skin without the add-on for a much-discounted price? Maybe.

In response to the LoL Faker bundle price, fans have said that players using the expensiveLeague of Legends skin will be banned from joining any games, just to discourage others from making the purchase. That might matter to some but those who want to spend will spend on LoL’s almost $500 Faker skin collection anyway. The hashtag “permaban Ahri” has now been spotted on Twitter/X and Reddit. Riot Games has not shown any signs that they’re going to address the controversy, and there’s no way to tell what would be a reasonable price, now that these numbers are already out and they’ve promised 30 percent of the proceeds to Faker and his teams. The company is unlikely to back down on the pricing now.
