And when asked directly if he believed Kyrie Irving had taken full accountability for his actions back then, Silver was emphatic in his support. “Absolutely,” Silver said. “I think in our private conversations, which at the time included (former NBPA executive director) Tamika Tremaglio … he was very remorseful. He took responsibility. I think we all know he can be a bit stubborn, and I think he felt strongly that he needed to speak in his own words in terms of how he expressed himself in terms of an apology to the public.”

The two of them first met during Irving’s 2010-11 season at Duke, Silver said, with legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski facilitating the introduction between two “Dukies.” Silver graduated from the university in 1984. “I felt comfortable vouching for him, in essence, because I knew him,” Silver said. “I knew his character and felt that it was important that — while he acknowledged that he had made a mistake — that his entire career and character not be framed by one bad moment. I mean, having said that, he paid a price, of course, for that misstep. But he did a lot (to make amends).”

Rick Pitino doesn’t believe Dan Hurley is going to leave Connecticut and take a massive potential megabucks offer from the Lakers. “What I’m hearing — and I have no [inside information] — is that his father [Bob Hurley Sr.] and his wife [Andrea] are very strong in his life and they don’t want to go,” Pitino told The Post from his box in the grandstand at Saratoga Race Course, which is holding a four-day meet which will be highlighted by Saturday’s Belmont Stakes.

Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone is still stinging from the team’s Game 7 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. So much so in fact, Malone hasn’t brought himself to watch the rest of the NBA playoffs so far. Malone joined Jim Rome on Friday for a rare offseason interview, and shared that interesting tidbit.

For Malone, he’s simply bummed out that Denver isn’t on the same stage it was a year ago, trying to win back-to-back titles. “I still have a hard time sitting there and watching it because I want to be there. I want to be coaching the Nuggets in the NBA Finals,” Malone said. “But it’s just still a little bit too raw for me right now to sit there and watch those games.”
