Soundcore Motion 100 - A Very Small And Affordable 20 Watt Speaker — GYMCADDY (2024)

So this is the Soundcore Motion 100, and this is currently Soundcore’s smallest and most affordable bluetooth speaker. Now this is a good option if you want something very small to take on the go with you or if you want a little bit of music while in your bedroom. But today we’re going to see what you get with Soundcore’s smallest bluetooth speaker.

Regarding pricing, the Soundcore Motion 100 has a retail price of $60… currently making this Soundcore’s most affordable speaker in their Motion lineup. Overall this is a solid speaker for what you pay… so if you want to pick this speaker up it’ll be linked down below, or you can always press on the YouTube shopping button.

Now first theres the design of this speaker, its very small with a length of X inches, a height of X inches and depth of X inches. So throwing this speaker into your back pack I very easy or you can just throw it into your water bottle holder. And there’s also a built in strap, but the thing about this built in strap is that its not elastic and you cant unbutton it. But the nice thing is that you can attach this speaker onto things if you happen to have a carabeaner or something. Now when it comes to durability, the motion 100 is IPX7 rated, meaning that water isn’t a problem for this speaker… it has a metal grill on the front and the rest of its body is covered in hard still rubber. So overall this speaker is going to have no problem standing up to constant abuse from bumps and scraped.

Now regarding battery life, the Motion 100 has an advertised battery life of 12 hours, however this advertised battery life is with this speaker playing at 50% volume, while its in its stock EQ and with its bass up feature turned off. real world use, with this speaker playing at max volume, and this is a speaker that I feel you’re going to be using at max volume on a regular basis, its good for about 4 hours of playback time.

And in order to charge this speaker, it charges via a USB C port as it should. However, this is the only port that you’ll find on this speaker cause it doesn’t have an audio jack… and you can only use this speaker wirelessly cause you cant use its USB C port as a wired connection.

But when it comes to wireless connectivity, this speaker can be connected to 2 devices at the same time so you and a friend can both be DJ. Latency is not an issue for this speaker so you can use it to watch videos with on your phone… and when it comes to audio codecs, the motion 100 has support for SBC, AAC and LDAC which is Sony’s high res audio codec. And it is extremely rare for a speaker of this size and price to even have LDAC.

Now what LDAC does is that it give you more detail in your music cause you get 3 times as much data… however if you want to use LDAC you have to be an android user cause iPhones top at AAC and if you do decide to use LDAC that is going to take an additional toll on the battery life.

But with all of that out of that way, lets talk about sound. Regarding speaker set up, the motion 100 has dual frontward firing driver and dual passive radiators that shoot out the front and back of this speaker. And this is very standard speaker set up. But also, through Soundcore’s app, you can either select from a few premade EQ’s or you can also make your own. But now we’re going to jump into the sound test, this speaker is playing at max volume and we’re going to be cycling between signature, bass up and voice.

Sound test

So like I mentioned earlier, I feel that this is a speaker that you’re probably going to end up using at max volume on a regular basis cause its just a 20 watt speaker. But the important thing here is, even at max volume, distortion isn’t a problem for this speaker cause the highs dont get tinny and the bass doesn’t bottom out. However, just given the Motion 100’s speaker set up, dont expect the most amazing instrument separation out there. And when it comes to the preset EQ’s personally, I think signature sounds best. But if you want to get a little more volume out of this speaker then you do want to use it while in voice… and theres there’s the bass up on this speaker. Sure it increases its bass, but it does make it sound warmer and more cramped together. But overall, I prefer to use this speaker with its signature EQ… and even at max volume, distortion isn’t a problem for this speaker.

But finally, lets talk about pairing this speaker up with other speakers. Now with the Motion 100, if you have another Motion 100, you’ll be able to wirelessly pair them up and get them to play in left and right stereo mode, so your music is going to get louder, but its also going to sound more open cause you’re going to have one speaker for your left channel and another speaker for your right channel.

However, you can only have a total of 2 speakers paired together, and you can only pair 2 100’s together. Unfortunately, you cant pair the Motion 100 with any other soundcore speakers. So if you have a Soundcore Motion X600, or X500 or 300 you can not pair them up to the motion 100.

But with all of that being said, the Soundcore Motion 100 is a very simple speaker. Its small and durable so you can take it on the go with you. Its sounds decent, but this is a speaker that you’re probably going to want to use at Max volume most of the time. But at max volume distortion isn’t a problem and you’re going to get about 4 hours of battery life out of it.
