AROUND THE VALLEY Former ambassador to discuss Eastern Europe in Lawrence address Former U.S. Ambassador Rudolf Perina will share his insights on the state of affairs and prospects for the future of Eastern Europe in the opening address of Lawrence University's 2010-11 Povolny Lecture Series in International Studies. Perina presents "Europe's PostCold War Conflicts: The Prospects for Peace in the Successor States to Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union" at 7 p.m. Monday in the Wriston Art Center auditorium. The event is free.

Drawing upon his experience as head of the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade Perina in the mid-1990s and U.S. Special Negotiator for Eurasian Conflicts from 2001-04, Perina will discuss the major regional wars that accompanied the break-up of Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union. The talk also will explore what the future holds for the region, given the varying degrees of stalemate and uneasy truces. Perina is spending the fall term teaching in the Lawrence government department as the Distinguished Visiting Scarff Professor.

Steve March-Torme to perform at UWFV Steve March-Torme will perform with John Harmon (piano) and John Gibson (bass) in "Songs from the Golden Age of Broadway Two cabaret performances take place Dec. 4 at the Baehman Theatre inside the UW Fox Valley Communication Arts Center, 1478 Midway Road, Menasha. The 6:30 p.m. show is sold out, however, tickets are available for the 8:45 p.m. performance.
