I"d bet it's what you remember. I was in Indy and 13 years old, and my Mom went to work the night before (she worked at Indy Power and Light and they recruited folks to come in) and as I recall the storm blew in during the morning. I remember watching some knucklehead try and get out when the snow was already a foot deep and still coming down and he got stuck at the exit road from our apartments (huge field out front with no trees so you could see the entire drive around for the apartments. (For any southsiders I lived in the townhomes that backed up to the 31 movie theater... and no, we had no windows in the back of the apartments!). By the next day his car was gone under a snow drift. There was 1 drift so high, we could walk up it, step up to the top of the wall of the drive in, and jump down inside. Guessing that wall was 8-10' high. I just don't see how bars/restaurants would have been open at least the first couple of days, because of the difficulty in getting workers there, and customers. I'd bet classes were closed the rest of the week and they did finally open after a couple days.

Was a freshman in Mcnu*tt for the 78 blizzard. We got in a beer run when classes were cancelled. The only other thing I remember is a big snowball fight in the street with Foster.

I was also a freshman at Mcnu*tt during the 78' blizzard. I don't recall the fight with Foster, but do remember the snowball fight with Sigma Nu after the first snowfall likely in December. The dormies won handily and damaged a few frat windows.

I was in Mcnu*tt as well. That march on the frats by hundreds if not a thousand was mob mentality. What was also impressive was how word spread of the pending snowball fight in the field behind Foster got out BEFORE cell phones. I remember when a window would break the crowd would cheer and then headed down to the TEAK house to that glorious picture window.

Where? I was on the 3rd floor in Bocobo. Your memory is probably more accurate on the snowball fight.

I remember that blizzard. The National Guard brought my mom home. It was cool seeing her get out of the army truck. We had to stay at my grandpa's for a week because they had a gas stove that worked to heat his house.

I'm sure they did...

Did you check on the ones that weren't students, and actually had to drive to work, to make sure their vehicles started at the end of their shift and they all got home safely?

Didn't think so...

they were local... students are gone... the ones that worked made their own decisions and were happy and rewarded well!

We had one heck of a party at Walnut Knolls. I remember guys jumping off the second floor into snow drifts.
