Erie, Pa. (WJET/WFXP) — A new survey ranking the 2024 Best States in the U.S. was released that puts the Keystone State in the same spot it had last year.

U.S. News & World Report released its findings looking at many different factors for all 50 states and how each one performs for its citizens.

Out of the bunch, Pennsylvania was ranked 40th in the country, which is the same rating it had for 2023. A breakdown of how the state ranked in each category shows:

  • Crime & Corrections – 16th
  • Economy – 41th
  • Education – 39th
  • Fiscal Stability- 44th
  • Health care – 11th
  • Infrastructure – 43th
  • Natural Environment – 37th
  • Opportunity – 24th

The only categories where Pennsylvania moved up on the list from last year were Crime & Corrections, Fiscal Stability and Infrastructure.

At the top of the list, Utah was in the number one spot as it did in 2023. But the “worst states” ranking at the bottom this year were Mississippi, New Mexico and Louisiana.
